JJ Murphy has over nineteen years of experience as a military officer and over fourteen years in municipal government. Between 2002 and 2010, he served as the City Administrator of the City of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and in 2012, he accepted the role as City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico.
After accepting his role as City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico, JJ Murphy began making changes for the better. From 2013 to 2015, Hobbs was named the seventh fastest growing micro-city (a city with population under 50,000) in the United States. Enhancing customer service during significant population growth is just one of the many improvements made under Mr. Murphy’s leadership.
“As City Manager of Hobbs, [New Mexico], I changed our mission statement to ‘Our Mission is SERVICE,’ said JJ Murphy. “SERVICE is used as an acronym for Safety, Engagement, Responsiveness, Visionary, Inclusive, Customer Driven and Enhancing the Quality of life. Our employees have changed their mindset to a service-minded organization. We work daily to improve our service-delivery to our residents.”
